Heart Box

The testing grounds for the creative genius of Bob Feyereisen, feYerwerks is an innovative oasis for those looking for smart handmade items. Each piece is thought through from beginning to end and exceedingly well designed and crafted. As a designer these are the types of pieces I wish I had bopping around in my brain: beautiful in their execution and perfect in their concept.

Seed Clothing

Gabor Dress
Gabor Dress

An awesome indy clothing line out of L.A., Seed Clothing owner Amy creates “art that lives on in our everyday lives.” I love her super-fab dresses and the way she combines fabrics. She agreed to tell us a little more about her background and her business — enjoy!

How did you get started in fashion? I went to study fashion design in New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduation I worked for Nanette Lepore, Calvin Klein, Pacific Sunwear and Chaps Ralph Lauren before starting my own line.

Where do you work? I currently work out of my home, but plan to get a studio off-site next year. I don’t have a full time staff, I use freelancers, contractors and part-time design assistants and sewers.

What are your inspirations? Vintage clothing! And fashion designers like Balenciaga, Isabel Toledo, Vivienne Westwood, Pauline Trigere. Fashion Magazines like Nylon and Vogue, Architecture, Interior design, life!

What’s next for seed clothing? Very hi-end mini collections offered at exclusive boutiques and on the internet. The collections will include full length coats, tailored jackets, couture blouses and specialty dresses. And teaching more local classes for lay people!

What else should the world know about you? I’m always striving to challenge myself as a designer but more importantly as an artist and craftsperson.

Miss Bohl

According to her etsy profile, you should buy Miss Bohl’s designs to support . . . her drinking habit. So maybe that’s not the best reason, here’s a better one:

A-line Retro Bias Dress
A-line Retro Bias Dress

This gorgeous chevron-striped A-line dress is totally adorable. Appropriate for everything from work to a cocktail party, this little cream and mint green number is one of my favorites! She also has tons of other great original designs — lots more stripes and plaids too — available here.

Another great indy designer I’ve recently discovered is Bonnie of katsai out of Barcelona, Spain. I love her military-inspired girly tops: They really embody this great dichotomy of hard and soft. She always manages to add just enough detail and embellishment to create a piece that’s special and unique, yet effortless.
