Yup, I’m making up words now. Apologies all around.

Have you ever been on one of those kicks where you just consume things? Books, levels on a video game, whatever—this winter I’ve been that way with crafts. You’ve already seen the felt flowers, but little did you know there’s also crochet (hats and plush pumpkins, yup, you read correctly, you’ll see them in the fall), painting, embroidery, various other fiber arts… I’ll binge for a week or two and move on to the next thing.

Since my house can’t seem to hold them all, I decided to give my other etsy shop (now lovingly called six twenty-two 2.0) a little revamp and start selling the fruits of these various pursuits. Just a few things up right now, more to come, enjoy!

The SOLD Project

The SOLD Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering individuals to stop child prostitution before it begins. The organization twofold: They’ve just finished filming a documentary in Thailand for four months to help raise awareness about human trafficking and have in place a growing prevention program. The Prevention Program is made up of 1) Scholarships 2) Mentorship for every child that is sponsored 3) After School Programs including sports, art, English, and tutoring 4) Human Trafficking Awareness Programs at the school starting in every 6-grade classroom to teach the children about the realities of human trafficking and prostitution.

It’s sad that in this world, the prevention of children being forced into prostitution is a cause that needs fighting for, but it does. To that end, illustrators, photographers, painters, collage and other artists have donated their creations to help fund this project. The artists’ statement: “We believe in the power of art to communicate, to touch, and to transform the world we live in. We also believe in affordable, accessible art, and giving back our profit of sold art to a cause that we find to be worthwhile.” Visit The SOLD Project’s etsy shop, buy a beautiful piece of art and help make this world a better place.

Silk Paintings

Instead of hanging that painting on your wall, why don’t you wear it around your neck? I love scarves, and these two artists are creating truly beautiful ones.

Angela of Muse Silk Paintings has a self-professed pattern obsession and loves the way the silk allows the ink to move between her resist lines. She has some really great info about her experiences with the craft on her blog. I love the fluid quantity of her work and how she allows the medium to do what it wants.

Mary of True so in Love is a full time artist (see her other etsy shop) who recently branched out into painting silk. The lovely line quality shown here carries throughout her work. The name is a play on “trousseau” as a collaboration with a lingerie designer is in the works to create one-of-a-kind hand painted silk lingerie pieces.
