July & August Card Club

Summer is finally in full swing! (I don’t want to complain but HOLY CRAP IT’S SO HOT MY BODY IS JUST A PILE OF SWEAT AHHHH!) July and August’s Card Club deliveries were chock full of beach vibes and backyard scenes printed in saturated colors perfect for the season.

I’ve already got some fun picks in mind for September, so make sure to join the club by August 20!

New & Improved Print Shop

closed

I’m getting packed up for a few weeks of travel so I thought I’d make it official: 622 press will be semi-closed for most of September!

I say semi-closed because while no cards, hoops or flowers will ship until I return on the 26, some custom pieces, wedding invites (more on that to come!) and of course digital artwork will still be available.

Great timing—as I’ve just given the Digital Prints section of the shop a refresh! You may remember my post about offering archival, museum quality prints from a few months ago. I was happy to check adding those prints off my list before heading out on vacation, but when I revisited them recently, I decided it wasn’t the best way to offer them.

So now that they’re easier to order, I’ve also added new designs—available as both a digital download and art prints! These are some of my favorite thus far—go check them out by clicking on the photo! And stay watch this space while I’m away—I have tons of fun reveals planned for September!

Pink Starfish Personal Stationery

VJC_1576

A few months ago, a friend got in touch about a birthday present for his wife. She’s a list-maker like me, so he thought it would be cool to create personalized list-sized paper as well as stationery. She adores pink and starfish, so I immediately knew one of the vintage cuts Diane sent to me years ago would be perfect in a custom pink ink! We decided to add her initials in a brighter fuchsia and create two different designs that worked perfectly together.  I love how the set turned out, and so did she!

Card Club: June

We’re heading out on a tropical vacation today! So this month’s Card Club package is inspired by the sun and the sea (plus a few cards for those inevitable summer weddings)!

COTM_615_7051Don’t worry, I’ve got a few posts scheduled to entertain you while I’m gone! And, there’s some fun stuff coming up later this month, so stay tuned!

New Star

A while back I realized that if I kept creating goods at my current pace (a byproduct of needing to busy my fingers while watching tv), I’d soon become a hoarder, or that friend who only gives gifts she’s made. So I picked up hand embroidery–a craft I hadn’t touched since I was very young. It’s incredibly labor intensive and slow going, so I knew the production line would slow its pace, plus I’ve been really inspired by modern takes on the ancient craft that have been popping up on the Internet in the last few years.

I’m not one for following patterns. Or recipes. Or direction of any kind, aside from my GPS… And even then…

Anyway, one of those cross stitch kits from the craft store was definitely not going to be for me. I knew I wanted to create a starfish entirely from French knots—the texture would be perfect—so I drew 5 lines radiating out from the center and got started!

A French knot is one of those things—like knitting and reformatting a hard drive—for which I always have to rely on YouTube to provide a refresher course. Here’s a great tutorial (skip the first 30 seconds).

I picked my colors at random—I already had a couple skeins of the vibrant poppy in the center of the star and knew I wanted to work my way out to something more muted to tie in to a chair we have in our living room. Not having a pattern meant many trips to the craft store, sometimes just for one skein, but sometimes I need an excuse to get out of the house these days anyway.

Some of the legs are a little crooked, some are a little bulgy, and the overall shape certainly isn’t a geometrically perfect star, but I like her and she adds the perfect touch. These days she’s happily keeping watch over our living room, right next to the window that looks out over the ocean!
