Brand Spankin’ New Letterpress Cards

If you follow 622 press on Instagram or Facebook (which you definitely should), you’ve seen my new collection being posted for the last week or so! It all started with a desire to rework my classic “you are my sunshine” card, and I liked it so much I based a whole collection around it. Featuring brush lettering and hand-drawn bikes, sunbursts and birthday candles, this collection is bright, joyful and of-the-moment. Shop cards here!

March Card Club

As you may have noticed, I’m blogging less these days. A whole lot of life has been happening lately—some good, some bad—and I’ve decided to stop feeling guilty and simply write when I can.

Freelance work and owning your own business is unpredictable both in schedule and income and I’m so happy with how the first few months of the year have gone! (Feel free to help me keep it up—lots of new goodies are in my store at the moment!)

But one of my favorite constants is pulling together collections for my monthly Card Club deliveries. I had a few new subscribers this month, so I wanted to send out a variety of goodies perfect for spring. Birds and bees, butterflies and flowers were on the agenda this month! Like what you see? Join the club!

Krista & Chris’ Hand Drawn Wedding Invites

For those of you who’ve been following along, the big day is finally here! No, not my big day, but the day I get to reveal Krista and Chris’ wedding invites, because they got married today!

krista_chris_1218

Since Krista absolutely loved them, I drew heavily from the Save the Dates I designed and printed for them last year. As you’ll recall, I hand-drew all the leaf and laurel elements, then vectorized them so they would print cleanly. I kept the handwriting-inspired typography, and switched out the script typeface from her save the dates for a more formal calligraphy inspired font. I’m absolutely in love with it—especially in white ink on her envelopes! So gorgeous. krista_chris_0749

We then tied the whole thing up with a wrap in her soft rose accent color. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the custom-mixed slate gray ink I printed the rest of the suite in!  krista_chris_1760 krista_chris_0747

I always encourage my brides to order their thank you notes along with their invites. One less thing to think about after the honeymoon—plus I offer a discount when they’re printed at the same time! I love Krista’s thank you notes… they really let the laurel design shine!

After we were finished with the more formal parts of her wedding stationery, Krista reached out for one last ingenious project: In lieu of a guestbook, she distributed sheets of custom mad libs around the tables for guests to complete. I just love the thought of all her friends and family giggling as they played this classic childrens’ game, and her and her new husband enjoying what I’m sure will contain hilarious jokes and great advice.

Reprints & Revamps

Last week, I sent off an order from my longest standing—and if we’re being honest, one of my favorite!—wholesale client. Driftless Studio has been carrying 622 press goodies consistently since 2009. The owner, Anne, is fabulous to work with—tactile and appreciative of the artsy imperfections of letterpress; decisive and trusting of her intuition when it comes to stocking the shop; and always offering creative ideas to collaborate on pieces she thinks will sell well.

bestdayever_multi_6156These collaborations have resulted in a few designs that are completely exclusive to her shop as well as small tweaks on existing designs—like our Best Day Ever cards in a bunch of new colors! I printed extras for my etsy shop as well, so get a multi-pack here, or individual cards here, here and here.

WI_6382Driftless Studio is located right in the heart of downtown, which is dominated by UW-Madison, so anything printed in red or Wisconsin-themed always sells well. With graduation soon approaching, they stocked up! The Wisconsin notecards are also available in my etsy shop.

nicewheels_6357The best part about having such a long-standing relationship is that Driftless still stocks a number of designs I haven’t had a chance to print recently. With more than 100 unique cards, it’s hard to keep them all in stock at once, so when the shop needed more nice wheels and magnolia thank you cards, I was all too happy to reprint some for the 622 etsy shop as well. magnolia_thankyou_6352

A Year of Letterpress

When I redesigned my website a few months ago, I gave my card-of-the-month club a bigger presence. I love the idea of creating a relationship with stationery lovers and sending them a little something special each month.

card-club-3However, the card club does skew toward gift giving, and if you know you’ll be moving sometime throughout the year, or you just want everything all at once, it wouldn’t work for you. So, I recently created a listing for a year’s worth of cards. The collection covers major special occasions—birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc.—and a handful of holidays, plus thank you cards and greeting-free notes you can use for any occasion.

Year_cards_5005Truth time, folks: I also have an ulterior motive with this one. I’m hard at work on a new collection for spring and I’m running out of space for all my inventory! So, for one more week, a set of 40 cards will run you just $80! Once things settle down and I find space for everything, they’ll go up to $100, so get them now! Go! Go buy them!

Thanks!

Big fat thank you to Papershop Ink for the kind words about my new collection. I’m definitely adding this blog to my (already way too long) list of daily reading. With posts about folks who are doing great things in the stationery world, what’s not to love?

New Year, New Collection

At long last, I’m happy to show you what I’ve been totally absorbed with the last couple of weeks: my first stationery collection of 2009! Below are just a few of the new designs (check out my etsy shop for the rest — and everything is available in any color!) and the press release I sent out with it.

Hot on the tails of its popular holiday line, 622 press has just released its first stationery collection of 2009. Showcasing the signature luxury for which 622 press is known, the collection includes influences from contemporary designer fashion, 17th- century culture and modern home décor, reflected in metallic inks, rich plum damask and feather motifs.

Madison, Wisconsin-based graphic designer Kristin Joiner successfully created and executed her first piece on her antique 1882 Pearl Old Style letterpress in June of 2008 and has been printing and artfully experimenting ever since. Each of the five new core designs is manifested in a variety of colorways and arrangements, and all offer the elegant handcrafted style of a small boutique press.

Hailed as “distinctive and unique . . . they are not merely paper, but also a piece of art for the mantle,” by Megan Larson of the Isthmus Daily Page, 622 press goods make the perfect addition to one’s inventory, whether for penning a personal note or for making a statement on an otherwise blasé wall.

622 press utilizes only the finest materials including hand-mixed oil-based inks, 100% recycled cotton letterpress paper and other quality art papers and creates every piece using earth-friendly processes.
