Depending on what side of the aisle you favor, the proposed cuts to the U.S. Postal Service are either a heinous attack on an American institution or a necessary step to balance the national budget. All I know is that if I have to stand in line any longer, I’m switching to Fed Ex.
No matter where you fall on that issue, everyone likes to get mail. I know I’ve waxed semi-poetic about the virtues of card-sending before, but really, is there anything better than the surprise of a hand-written note? At least one person agrees with me: Stefanie of Newspaper Taxi is holding a contest for lovers of letters.

This blog surpassed 10,000 views last week and to celebrate I thought I’d give away some awesome merchandise from Grand Array. Hannah Stouffer (read about her here and here) provided the goods, I’ll provide the shipping and all you have to do is leave a comment below! Say whatever you’d like — just make sure to include your email so I can get in touch with you if you win!
Giveaway includes: a sweet Blood is the New Black tee (size medium), three cute matchbooks and a book, all featuring Hannah’s illustrations. Winners will be chosen one week from today by picking a number out of a hat — good luck!
Just in time for graduation, I’ve finished several note cards in my typography series. The first is just a simple congratulations, but the texture of the vintage lead type really makes an impact with such a simple design. And I love the unique shape — perfect for checks. Not socks, not monogrammed towels, checks!
The next is the first of many note cards I plan to make of famous quotes and sage advice. I did a project about Helen Keller in college and have had this quote stuck in my head ever since — I’m glad I can finally put it to good use!
I have several phrases in mind, but I’d like your help to come up with more! Simply leave a comment below, making sure to include your email address in the designated space, and if I decide to use your quote, I’ll send you a couple cards free! Do not recommend copyrighted material (song lyrics, poems, etc.). If it’s a quote, please include who said it. Feel free to comment as many times as you’d like — can’t wait to see what you come up with!
